The Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) is the minimum qualified test required in India to be eligible for the appointment of government teachers from class I to VIII. This is a mandatory test for teaching jobs in Indian government schools.

 

The Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) was introduced in 2011 by the Government of India to improve the teaching standards.

 

The Teachers Eligibility Test  (TET) is conducted by both the central and state governments of India. Most of the states in India conduct their own TET.

Eligibility Criteria of TET 

1. Nationality 

Candidates must a citizens of India.

2. Age limit 

Minimum Age: 18  years

Maximum Age: 35 years

 

3. Educational Qualification 

 

There are two papers in this exam having different eligibility criteria. Paper 1 is for those candidates who want to become teachers in the primary school (class 1-5) and Paper 2 is for those candidates who want to become teachers in the upper primary school (class 6-10).

Senior Secondary ( or its equivalent )with at least 50% marks or appearing in the final year of the 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education.

Completed graduation or appeared in the final year of the 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education.

Senior Secondary ( or its equivalent )with at least 45% marks or appearing in the final year of the 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE regulation, 2002.

OR

Completed graduation with 50% marks or appearing in the 1st year of Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).

OR

Senior Secondary ( or it’s equivalent )with at least 50% marks or appearing in the final year of the 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) OR Completed graduation with 45% marks or appearing in the 1st year of Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) in accordance with the NCTE regulation, 2002

OR

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test is the entrance exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for getting the teachings jobs in government schools.

 

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Govt has assigned the responsibility of conducting the  CTET to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi. The aim of this test is to achieve the goals of the Right Of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act.

 

The CBSE is responsible for conducting the CTET twice a year for teaching positions from classes 1-8 in central government schools. Some of them are :

 

  • Kendriya Vidyalaya
  • Central Tibetan Schools
  • Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
  • Schools administered by UTs of Chandigarh, Daman& Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Island, and NCT of Delhi.

The Age limit for SET examination is in the bracket of 21-28 years

 

3. Educational Qualification 

  • Candidates must have completed a Master’s degree or an equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks. For SC/ST, a minimum of 50% marks is needed.

 

SET/SLET Exam Pattern 

 

The different States follow different exam patterns for the selection.  State releases their own notification with all the details like the number of posts, age limit, qualification, exam pattern, etc. Generally, the following pattern is followed by most of the states.

 

The examination is conducted on behalf of UGC. This exam consists of two papers and is conducted on the same day.
